Choose a surface for the tasks you do
A writing desk can give a room a useful clear surface without a large equipment setup. Lay out the notebook, laptop or other items you use most and compare that area with the actual top. Drawers or a shelf can organise smaller things but may reduce legroom. Measure the seated position and the route past the desk, choosing decorative details after the daily working arrangement fits.
