Lay out the equipment first
Lay out your screen, keyboard and pointing device on an existing surface, then measure that area including plugs behind the screen. A raised shelf or storage section can reduce usable depth. If you use a monitor arm, compare the actual top edge, thickness and stated load requirements with the arm instructions. This equipment-first method is more helpful than choosing a desk only by total width or by the word computer.
Keep access and cables manageable
Review legroom, drawer opening and room for the chair. Cable features are included only where listed; plan power access without crowding the floor. Check whether the purchase is a desk alone or a complete furniture set.
Questions, answered.
Will two monitors fit?
Compare the actual equipment footprint with the usable top and the desk’s load guidance.
Does a computer desk include a keyboard tray?
Only where specified. Read tray dimensions and clearance if needed.
Can I use a monitor arm on this desk?
Compare the arm’s clamping, thickness and load requirements with the actual desktop edge and stated desk capacity. Shelves or rear supports can affect access for a clamp. Confirm compatibility from both sets of instructions rather than the word computer in the desk name.
