Guest Room and Home Office: Plan Both Modes Properly
Plan a spare room as an office and guest bedroom using two complete layouts. Check the bed open, the desk in use and storage access.
A guest room that doubles as a home office has two complete layouts, even if the furniture never leaves the room. Draw both before buying anything.
Work mode needs a usable desk, chair, equipment and storage. Guest mode needs an accessible sleeping surface, somewhere for a bag and a clear route through the room. A sofa bed closed neatly in the corner does not prove the second layout works.
Draw work mode first
Mark the desk and the chair while someone is using it. Include the equipment, power points and access to storage. Think about daylight on the screen and how the room is used during calls.
The desk-size guide starts with your equipment rather than an arbitrary furniture size. If the room is your regular workplace, the work setup deserves proper consideration even when guests visit only occasionally.
Now draw guest mode on the same plan
Use the bed’s complete open dimensions. For a sofa bed, include the conversion area and the position of anything that must move. Put the desk chair somewhere real; “out of the way” is not a location on a floor plan.
Check whether the guest can reach the door, light and sleeping surface with the room arranged this way. Leave somewhere for clothing and luggage that does not occupy the only route.

Give work items a closing routine
Store paperwork, chargers and small equipment before guests arrive. Keep personal or confidential documents appropriately secured. Route cables so they do not become a trip hazard when the bed is open.
Set aside a known place for spare bedding, and test how long conversion takes. If it involves unplugging half the office and moving heavy furniture every visit, simplify the plan.
